Health care assistants help people with day to day activities, in their own homes, hospitals or in nursing homes. The role can be physically challenging if you have to lift people and often involves personal care like helping people wash and go to the toilet. It is essential that you are kind and patient with a friendly approach. A good sense of humour can be helpful because the job can be quite emotionally draining at times. It is not essential that you are trained if you are starting at the very beginning of your career as on the job training is often provided, but some experience of working with people is helpful and the more qualifications you undertake (such as NVQ’s and HND’s in Care Work, or Social Work degrees) the higher your levels of pay and responsibility will be.

Re- Healthcare Assistant
Dear Mrs Manager
I am writing in response to your advertisement for the above post, and am attaching my CV for your information.
As you will see from my CV, I have a wide range of skills and experience that are relevant to this position. I have just spent the past two years working as a healthcare assistant in a care home for people with learning disabilities and I am now looking to further develop my skills working with older people. I am a confident communicator at all levels, able to put people at ease and gain their trust even in difficult circumstances. I am friendly and supportive, being sensitive to people’s needs and am able to explain information clearly and patiently. I have a good standard of physical fitness so am able to undertake physical work such as heavy lifting, and I am reliable and punctual with an excellent attendance record. I have just completed my NVQ2 in healthcare.
I am patient and polite and work well with a wide range of people from all walks of life. I pride myself in my ability to deliver the very best service possible at all times and feel I would make a valuable addition to your team.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely
Brenda Hanson
